New academic year....meet new students, new classmates, new instructors; leave old ideas behind. Question still in my mind about the "new model" of education - E-ed. Have dealt with E-commerce, networks, virtual stuff! Unsure if E-ed is the future or a marketing idea whose time will be short.

I have found your comment about the place and the future of E-education to be right on the mark. While I do see some value to E- education in that it allows greater access to education, there will still be the very real need for the traditional face to face interaction of student(s) and teacher. Such interactions will have to occur in some accessible and centralized real world location.
ReplyDeleteI find it very interesting that you refer to a "greater access to education". I feel that education and "learning" are on two differing pathways. My life experience has been primarily a learning expereince and not necessarrily and educational experience. Education is made up of chunks of information while I think that learning is made up of broader understandings. Connecting these two is, in the end, knowledge.
ReplyDeleteFor a couple of thousand years of western civilization this connection was the ideal. And hear we are in the third millenium experimenting with a new model talking to a machine. H.G.Wells is smiling in spite of himself!

In my point of view, I believe the future of E-education will be popular in our life. It is because people can take classes in any where any time. For people who do not have time to go to classes, it would be a convenient way for them to continue their education. However, generally, I think the traditional face to face education would be need in the long run. It is because people can build up their academic skills more effective and efficient by sharing ideas with the others though the classroom. The differences is we just need a computer that can access to text books online instead of carrying a physical books. We also can do our research by using computer and the internet.
